What is a Sport Coat?

Sport coats come in many different colors, single or double breasted design, decorations, and sturdier fabrics. Some of these fabrics are tweed, windowpane, linen, houndstooth, cashmere and flannel. The length of the coat is typically mid to lower crotch. The sport coat is often a softer construction that makes it usable for all different kinds of situations.

TEXTURED/ TWEED WOOL SPORT COAT

These kinds of sport coats are good if you plan on doing sporting activities in your jacket. Some examples of these activities are riding, shooting, and hunting. It is made of fabrics that are textured like corduroy or tweed. These coats were originally intended for outdoor activities which makes them perfect for the colder seasons. 

RUMPLED, CASUAL COTTON SPORT COAT

This is the perfect casual sport coat choice. They have super soft shoulders, minimal lining, and is made of twilled cotton. They look great with button down shirts, jeans and sneaker.

LIGHTLY CONSTRUCTED/ UNCONSTRUCTED LINEN SPORT COAT

These sport coats are perfect for warmer weather. They have minimal lining which makes them much more breathable than other sport coats. They are typically made of linen. This makes them perfect to dress up or down.

POLISHED COTTON SPORT COAT

These are excellent to substitute for traditional dressy wool blazers or suits. They are more structured sport coats. These are typically made of a smooth cotton fabric and has less texture compared to ones made of tweed fabrics.

When Do You Wear a Sport Coat?

A sport coat is incredibly versatile for any number of outfits. They do lean towards more of a casual look, but they can also be easily dressed up. Here are some occasions that are perfect for sport coats:
